Society 5.0 is characterized by advances in A.I. and Big Data which have gradually improved human life. However, these intelligent systems occasionally produce negative side effects on human life such as fake news and the information divide. This session discusses the ethical and inclusive ways of providing high-quality information to the cyber and physical public spheres through libraries, museums and archives. The session also considers ways to create a new public sphere in the democratic society based on perspectives from Japan, the U.S., and Nordic countries. The theme of this session is "From Division to Reunion".

21世紀の今、Society 5.0が人工知能やビッグデータの発展によって実現しつつあり、人間生活に様々な影響を与え始めている。大量の知識や情報が共有されることで新たな価値が創造され、持続可能な社会のより効果的な実現が待たれる一方、フェイクニュースに代表されるようにインテリジェントシステムによる情報共有は負の側面も生じさせる。例えば2016年の米国大統領選や英国欧州連合（EU）離脱などに関連したフェイクニュースが国民の投票行動に影響を与えた可能性が指摘されたのは記憶に新しい。その一方で、同じ地域に居住しているにも関わらず、情報共有からさえも取り残されてしまっている貧困層や難民の人々も存在する。すなわち、共有情報量は増加させつつも高い質の情報を維持することが、これからの民主主義社会の健全な発展には必要不可欠となる。
Society 5.0の本格的到来を前に、私たち人類は良質の民主主義社会を維持・発展させるためには、どのような手段により必要な情報を必要な時に入手できるのか、また入手した情報の価値判断をどのように行うのかを検討すべき時を迎えたのである。
本セッションでは、情報の質を管理できる社会教育機関の図書館、博物館、文書館を通し、サイバーとフィジカルな両空間に対していかに良質な情報が提供されうるのかを考え、またそこで得られた良質な情報に基づく議論の場を新しい公共圏として捉えてその在り方を論じる。その上で、現代社会の「分断から再統合へ」をテーマに、日本、米国、北欧という異なった社会システムの観点から、これからの民主主義の在り方および良質な情報に基づく議論を展開できる公共圏の創出法を検討する。
