Call for presentation for the Future Shapers Sessions at the “Tsukuba Conference 2025”
Date and time: 17:00-18:30, 1 and 2 October 2025
Venue: Tsukuba International Congress Center, Japan
Organizing Institution: Tsukuba Conference Organizing Council
The Tsukuba Conference envisions to create a brilliant future by exploring new frontiers of research in various fields such as space, deep sea, brain, nuclear fusion, and hydrogen energy, and by addressing challenges and opportunities in the Global South.
The Future Shapers Sessions organised by young scholars call for presentation for two sessions. Session One focuses on (generative) AI, and Session Two covers any science and technology to discuss “How Do We Go into New Frontiers with Society?” Several speakers for each session will be invited by the secretariat of the Tsukuba Conference, and one or few speaker(s) for each session will be open for call.
About the Tsukuba Conference
The Tsukuba Conference is an international conference where talented young people from industry, government and academia from around the world gather in Tsukuba Science City to discuss on various issues in 'science and technology in society' to form networks among them.
The conference is mainly for young future shapers (in principle up to ages under 50) in various fields such as researchers (including students), engineers, entrepreneurs, investors, social entrepreneurs, journalists, officials of public offices and international organizations, and others.
Why Join?
- Covering “Science and Society”: The relationship between science and society is discussed in this session and other sessions in the Tsukuba Conference;
- Interdisciplinary Nature: Many sessions with different disciplie will be held in the Tsukuba Conference, and this session will be held in Tsukuba Science City with scholars of many different backgrounds;
- Emphasis on Youth and Building Network: Youth’s contribution is encouraged, and fresh ideas will be shared, and you can build network among youth.
Submission Guidelines
- Eligibility: Young future shapers (in principle up to ages under 50) in various fields such as researchers (including students), engineers, entrepreneurs, investors, social entrepreneurs, journalists, officials of public offices and international organizations, and others. You are strongly encouraged to stay in Tsukuba from 1st to 3rd of October to attend several sessions in the Tsukuba Conference.
- Format: Oral Presentation with slides (in principle).

Session 1: How Does (Generative) AI Go into New Frontiers with Society?
Date and Time:17:00-18:30, 1 October 2025
Main Questions to be discussed:
- What future do you envision related to (generative) AI?
- What role can AI play in addressing the challenges faced by the Global South?
Session 2: How Do We Go into New Frontiers with Society?
Date and Time: 17:00-18:30, 2 October 2025
Main Questions to be discussed:
- What future do you envision? Are there social issues to be solved, which can be identified through research?
- What is the role of science to realise this future?
- How can this future be realised with the policies, systems and business surrounding science?
- What role can science and technology and/or policies, systems and business surrounding science play in addressing the challenges faced by the Global South?
*Applicants can choose from one of these. If the applicant wished to apply for both, please apply twice. - Selection Process: Submit a 200-word CV and 400-word abstract in English with clear answer to the questions raise for the session. Make sure that the audience is not necessarily experts in the applicants field. Clarity, accuracy, interdisciplinarity and creativity of the argument will be the main criteria of selection.
- Fees & Funding:
Two researchers may be awarded grants to trip to Tsukuba and accomodation in Tsukuba depends on the budget. - Key Dates:
