Outline: On the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, about six young researchers from Japan and other countries active in the field of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and related science and technology will give presentations on preparedness and response to catastrophic disasters that are expected to occur in the future. They will introduce their research, work, and contributions to DRR, including catastrophic disasters, followed by a Q&A session and a panel discussion. The panel discussion will clarify differences and commonalities in recognition and efforts among countries and regions and identify future issues. Objective: To raise awareness among the audience about the pressing need to prepare for "catastrophic disasters." and the need for industries, academia, governments, and private sectors to cooperate in preparedness and response. The attendance of NIED's overseas partner institutions as speakers raises international awareness of this session. It fosters the audience's understanding of international cooperation in DRR and the need for such cooperation.

実施要領：関東大震災100年目の節目に、今後、発生が予想される壊滅的災害への備えと対応につき、防災分野や関連する科学技術分野で活躍する日本及び海外の若手研究者６名程度が登壇し、①自身の研究や業務と防災への貢献について発表し②質疑応答、③パネルディスカッションを行う。パネルディスカッションでは国や地域による認識や取組の相違点と共通点等を明らかにしつつ、今後の課題を確認する。目的：「壊滅的災害」への備えが喫緊の課題であること、及び産官学民が協力して備えと対応を行うことの必要性について、聴衆の意識を高める。防災科研の海外協力先機関の研究者等が登壇することにより、本セッションの国際的認知度を高めるとともに、防災における国際協力と、その必要性について聴衆の理解を醸成する。
