Agriculture is a fundamental human activity to earn food. However, food production is accompanied with emissions of greenhouse gases and reactive nitrogen those induce various environmental issues. Food consumption is also related to the environmental loads through food waste/loss. Our food system should change to more pro-environmental one by shortening the supply chain and reducing environmental loads with production and consumption. Local food production for local consumption can be an approach to enable our food system more sustainable. In this session, we gather knowledge of suitable cropping for each land, environmentally friendly agriculture, soil, and environment to deepen our understanding to the nexus of food, agriculture, and the environment that fosters human engagement to create transdisciplinary knowledge to hand over the sustainable food system to future generations.
